Repentance

The Savior paid for our sins through the atonement. He has provided a way for us to repent, if we sin. This gives us such great hope because "no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of God...

Restitution is not always possible, like when we hurt another testimony...

Although repentance is a long, hard road, we can repent and be clean. Suffering is a part of repentance. "It is especially acute if we have hurt a spouse..." If our heart is right, that pain will be tinged with hope." http://stream.byui.edu/VideoPlayer/BYUIplayer.html?StartCue=1944&EndCue=2254&VideoName=AChasteAndVirtuousLife&VideoType=devotionals
In such serious matters the path of repentance is not easily begun nor painlessly traveled. But the Savior of the world will walk that essential journey with you. He will strengthen you when you waver. He will be your light when it seems most dark. He will take your hand and be your hope when hope seems all you have left. His compassion and mercy, with all their cleansing and healing power, are freely given to all who truly wish complete forgiveness and will take the steps that lead to it.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “Personal Purity,” Ensign, Nov 1998

(#1-JTD) "It can be discouraging at times to know what it means to be a son of God and yet come up short. The adversary likes to take advantage of these feelings. Satan would rather that you define yourself by your sins instead of your divine potential. Brethren, don’t listen to him."

(#3-JTD)“There is really no other way to get lasting healing and peace. Postponing humble repentance will delay or prevent your receiving relief. Admit to yourself your mistakes and seek help now. Your bishop is a friend with keys of authority to help you find peace of mind and contentment. The way will be opened for you to have strength to repent and be forgiven.” "Trust in the Lord" by Richard G. (#4-JTD)“Humility is the essence of repentance. Humility is selfless, not selfish. It doesn’t demand its own way or speak with moral superiority. Instead, humility answers softly and listens kindly for understanding, not vindication. Humility recognizes that no one can change someone else, but with faith, effort, and the help of God, we can undergo our own mighty change of heart.” "Marriage: Watch and Learn" by Elder L. Whitney Clayton General Conference April 2013 http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/04/marriage-watch-and-learn?lang=eng

(#5-JTD)“True repentance is not only sorrow for sins and humble penitence and contrition before God, but it involves the necessity of turning away from them, a discontinuance of all evil practices and deeds, a thorough reformation of life, a vital change from evil to good, from vice to virtue, from darkness to light. Not only so, but to make restitution so far as is possible for all the wrongs that we have done, to pay our debts and restore to God and man their rights, that which is due them from us. This is true repentance and the exercise of the will and all the powers of body and mind is demanded to complete this glorious work of repentance.” " What Is True Repentance?" by President Spencer W. Kimball New Era May 1974 http://www.lds.org/new-era/1974/05/what-is-true-repentance?lang=eng

(#6-JTD)“Repentance is not a foreboding word. It is following faith, the most encouraging word in the Christian vocabulary. Repentance is simply the scriptural invitation for growth and improvement and progress and renewal. You can change! You can be anything you want to be in righteousness.” "For Times of Trouble" by Jeffery R. Holland Liahona January 1982 https://www.lds.org/liahona/1982/01/for-times-of-trouble?lang=eng

(#7-JTD)“The doctrine is clear. We all depend on the Savior; none of us can be saved without Him. Christ’s Atonement is infinite and eternal. Forgiveness for our sins comes with conditions. We must repent, and we must be willing to forgive others. Jesus taught, ‘Forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not … [stands] condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin’ and ‘Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.’” "The Merciful Obtain Mercy" by President Dieter F. (#8-JTD)“People can change. They can put behind them bad habits. They can repent from transgressions. They can bear the priesthood worthily. And they can serve the Lord diligently.” "See Others as They May Become" by President Thomas S. (#9-JTD)“If any has stumbled in his journey, there is a way back. The process is called repentance. Our Savior died to provide you and me that blessed gift. Though the path is difficult, the promise is real: ‘Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow’ (Isaiah 1:18).” "There Is A Way Back" By President Thomas S. (#10-JTD) “Throughout your life there may be times when you have gone places you never should have gone and done things you never should have done. If you will turn away from sin, you will be able one day to know the peace that comes from following the pathway of complete repentance.” "The Atonement" by President Boyd K.
